Newsletter

In April Dr Derek Miller leaves the Practice. We want to wish him well for the future.

Retirement

Dr Duncan McDowall will be retiring in October.

Recruitment

So far we have been unable to recruit another GP to the practice. As a result we have decided to employ two Advanced Nurse Practitioners to help us continue to provide a quality service to our patients.   They will be trained to a national standard, have their own surgeries and will be able to deal with most day to day problems.   Our administration staff will be able to allocate appointments.

Please bear with us during this transformation time.

Annual Health Screening—House of Care

If you have a chronic illness you will be called in for an annual review on your birthday month. Our new Health Care Assistants will see you for your initial appointment where they will be able to carry out assessment and take bloods. You will then have an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses who will complete your reviews. You will be given the option to discuss areas of your health that matters to you.

111 The number for NHS 24

If you require medical assistance out with normal working hours the new number to dial is 111. This will take you directly to the out of hours service where your call will be dealt with as soon as possible.   Information will be passed to the practice the following morning.

Surgeries out with normal working hours — an enhanced service for our patients

At least three times per week we have early morning surgeries, commencing at 7.30am. If you are working this might be an ideal opportunity for you to see your GP.

Website and on-line services

We have developed a new web site www.aberlourmedicalpractice.co.uk

You can book appointments with the GP and order prescriptions on line.  You must register with the reception staff who will provide you with a letter which has a unique coded for you to enter in the vision on line services website

We welcome your feedback.

Locum

From time to you may be seen but a locum GP, this will allow our practice GPs to have their annual leave.

Text messaging  service

We are updating medical records, when you  visit the practice you will be asked to complete a form asking for your mobile phone number.   We intend to remind patients of appointments and also contact them in this way for their reviews.
